King Welsh were an instrumental part of the team that brought the “Messenger” sculpture to Plymouth in 2019.
King Welsh were appointed by Theatre Royal Plymouth to manage the sub-structure, ground works and infrastructure installations required to support the city’s monumental new 7 metre tall 10 tonne Bronze figurine, which was installed in preparation for Plymouths 400th anniversary of the Mayflower ship sailing to the New World. The piece was commissioned as part of a £7.5m regeneration of the Theatre and acts as the gateway to the Arts in Plymouth.
King Welsh were responsible for the management and co-ordination of the works as well as the Health and Safety planning for the complex task of installing the dozen piles to support the statue. The incredibly busy sub terrain environment, topography of the site, proximity to the public and press, and local interest in the project, along with the engagement with multiple stake holders, made for a challenging project. King Welsh are pleased to have been part of this flagship project for the City of Plymouth.
